The Varian 640 Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectrometer (FTIR) has a wavenumber range of 600 to 4000 cm-1. It is equipped with a Golden Gate-diamond ATR with temperature control (electrical heater up to 200 °C) for solid samples and a transmission module with a temperature-controlled flow-cell (water heating/cooling jacket from 10 to 90 °C) and water-resistant CaF2 windows for liquid samples. Teflon spacers between 6 and 500 μm and nitrogen purging are available. FTIR is a wide-spread technique in many applications, from quantitative detection of specific chemical compounds to determination of protein secondary structures.
